Mike Nelson is one of the country's premier comedy writers. A critic's favorite as long time host and head writer for the legendary Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mike led the writing staff to three Emmy nominations, four Cable ACE nominations, and received the prestigious Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting. The show was also honored with a special induction into the Museum of Television and Radio.

His first book, Mike Nelson's Movie Megacheese, thrilled critics, including Richard Schickel of Time Magazine, who said of Mike, "He's more fun than a barrel of Val Kilmers... Smarter than a roomful of Patrick Swayzes... and almost as hilarious as Keanu Reeves." Mike's laugh-out-loud follow-up, Mind Over Matters, prompted Kirkus Reviews to enthuse, "From someplace called Minnesota comes a Nelson funnier than Ozzie, Ricky, Lord or Half," and even dared to compare him to another legendary writer, saying of his Serious Speech to Business People, "[It] could easily precede [Robert] Benchley's immortal Treasurer's Report."

A favorite on the lecture circuit, Mike has delighted audiences all over the country with his outrageous yet astute commentary on film, television and pop culture. (But mostly, he's just plain funny.)

As a performer on Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mike made his mark portraying dozens of oddball characters. With hilarious interpretations of Jack Perkins, Michael Feinstein, a bellicose police officer, giant Japanese turtle, and depressed pop star Morrissey, Mike became a fan favorite. He began a five year stint as regular host in 1993. Mike also wrote much of the music for the series and eventually shared directing duties.
